The post-familial phenomenon is defined by the shifting paradigm that has challenged the role of the nuclear family from being the central unit of the society to a new social model where the family is no longer the central organizing element of the society. The programmatic subject of the studio problem, cohabitation in Brooklyn, champions investigations into the political, formal, and social aspects of the ever-dissolving line between the private and public sphere.
Ambiverted City is a proposal for ‘live-work’ housing that provides a colony for artists and educators whose career requires spaces designed with craft or studio as its core. Units for two or four people are intended to be hyper-efficient modules with an large open space for studio work. The project opens itself up to the broader community through its courtyards; Retail units that face the street as well as three courtyard mews spaces host an artists market and invite the public to interact and exchange with residents.
